Natural Robusta coffee is a type of Robusta coffee processed using the natural (or dry) method, where the coffee cherries are left to dry intact with their pulp and skin before the beans are extracted. Unlike the washed method, which involves depulping and fermenting the coffee cherries, the natural process relies on sunlight and air to dry the whole cherry.
This method can enhance the natural sugars in the cherries, resulting in a richer, heavier-bodied coffee with robust flavors and slightly higher caffeine levels. Although historically associated with bitter or harsher flavor notes, improvements in drying and handling techniques have led to higher-quality natural Robustas with notes of chocolate, nuttiness, and mild fruitiness, making this lot interesting.
